Top Five Tips for Moving to Maui and Getting a Job

For the last couple of weeks, my brother, Bobby, has been trying to settle in Maui. After graduating from high school, he moved to Maui from Las Vegas. One of his first steps was to find and apply for a job. After going from store after store, through craigslist ad after craigslist ad, he finally found a job in Maui! This is his experience of moving to Maui and getting a job in Lahaina:

1. Before I go, is there anything I should take along with me?

Stay at Lahaina Accommodations when looking for a job on MauiWell, for starters, do you have your resume ready, Freddy? Include interests, accomplishments, accolades, certifications, qualifications. Don't leave anything out of your resume!

Learn a little about the business where you are applying, then make yourself the brightest of the applicants. Prepare your contact information and reference details ahead of time. It's always a good idea to take notes beforehand to see if there's any question. Notice the hours of operation, where and when to meet, shift availability, etc

2. No shirt, no shoes, no service!

Your chances of getting a job is better when you consider how you present yourself to other people. Make sure you look like you're ready to get a job, and not ready to go to the beach or to bed!

3. A show up is better than a no-show.

What's better way than getting to know someone than to meet them in-person? Smile, and look enthusiastic about getting a job!

4. Any work to do before actually going to work?

Hopefully this is an obvious pointer. Don't apply for a job when you have an empty stomach, need to go to the bathroom, or get some rest! Remember to stay focused, alert, awake. Remember to keep your priorities in check!

5. Give a helping hand, or two!

Help out whenever or wherever you can! As they say: "Many hands make the work easy."

Bobby followed these tips consistently and within a month was able to find a job at Teddy's Bigger Burgers, a new take-out / sit-down burger restaurant opening early May in the Lahaina Gateway Center.
